This year the traditional dragon-shaped savings boxes will also come in the shape of a dragon to celebrate the lunar Year of the Dragon.
According to craftsman Hoang Viet, more than 5,000 dragon figurines have been produced each day in his facility.
In order to create a perfect product, every stage of making the figurines needs to be done carefully.
Recent years has seen growing demand for clay figurines, which has led to a diverse range of attractive designs being produced.
As a result, Lai Thieu's clay figurines are gaining greater attention and are even competing with items made from plastic or wood.
The artisanal products which come from this crafting village are distributed to provinces such as Tien Giang and An Giang, as well as the southwestern and southeastern regions of Vietnam. Additionally, they are exported to markets in Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.
The price of each figurine varies based on its size and design, typically ranging from VND30,000 to VND170,000 per piece.
The painting stage is also a meticulous piece of work as the paint must be evenly coated and not smeared.
On the occasion of Lunar New Year festival, the crafting village experiences its highest level of sales.
It’s believed that saving money in the new clay dragon-shaped boxes will bring the owners a prosperous year ahead.
