Từ năm 2001-2021, ngành công nghiệp bán dẫn toàn cầu đã tăng 14% mỗi năm, đạt doanh thu gần 600 tỷ USD tính đến năm 2023. Các chuyên gia nhận định, con chip của thế kỷ 21 cũng quan trọng như dầu mỏ của thế kỷ 20, và vì thế, lịch sử của chất bán dẫn chính là lịch sử của thế kỷ 21.
