Situated around 150 kilometres southwest of Ho Chi Minh City, Sa Dec Flower Village is widely considered to be the flower kingdom of the Mekong Delta region and the country’s largest supplier of flowers for southern provinces during the festive period.
The flower village is now entering its busiest time of the year as local farmers are working hard from dawn to dusk as they prepare their flowers and bonsai plants to go on sale in the run up to the peak Tet season.
Tet will see the village supply two million baskets of flowers of about 2,000 types.
Apart from popular flowers such as chrysanthemum and marigold, the village also offers 50 types of imported roses.
These flowers will be used as offerings to ancestors as local people pray for luck and also used their decorate their homes during Tet.
The final month of the lunar calendar is the time when flowers in Sa Dec are in full bloom.
At this time, the village is considered at its most beautiful and vibrant because it's in the midst of the main harvest season of the year.
Recently, Sa Dec villagers have developed a traditional craft village as part of efforts to promote tourism.
The village becomes a tourist hotspot each year with about one million visitors before and during Tet.
People tend to flock to the village to purchase flowers and to take scenic photos.
They can also talk and share gardening experiences, as well as participating in some of activities with local villagers to take care and pack flowers for sale.
