VOV.VN - Branches of peach blossoms and kumquat trees can now be seen on sale at Quang An flower market in Tay Ho district, the largest of its kind in Hanoi, signaling the arrival of a new spring, as the lunar New Year (Tet) is just more than a month away.
With over a month to go before Tet, many peach branches are going on sale in order to meet customer demand in the leadup to the festive season.
Luu Thi Hau, a trader at Quang An flower market, says she has spent 22 years selling peach branches for Tet celebrations and people often purchase these branches around one month ahead of the holiday period.
These branches have been trimmed from trees grown in Phu Thuong village, Tay Ho district.
Hau shares that each day she sells 10 peach branches on average.
Small branches can cost between VND120,000 and VND200,000 each.
The blossoming of the flowers marks the initial sign that the Lunar New Year is just around the corner.
Peach flowers are widely believed to represent both luck and prosperity when moving into the new year.
Aside from peach blossoms, several traders at Quang An flower market also sell wild flowers ahead of the festive season. Each branch costs between VND200,000 and VND500,000.
According to sellers, wild pear flower trees are typically brought from mountainous provinces throughout the north such as Lang Son, Lao Cai, and Ha Giang.
Some people choose to purchase pots of kumquat trees in order to decorate their living rooms for the festive season.
A Tet atmosphere descends on the traditional flower market in the capital as customers head to the area to purchase flowers for home decoration.
The prices of small pots of kumquat hover around VND300,000 to VND500,000 each.
