VOV.VN - Soldiers from the mainland and those based on Nam Du Archipelago in Kien Giang province have come together to wrap Banh Chung (square glutinous rice cake) in preparation for the Lunar New Year Festival, known locally as Tet.
Local people join with officers and soldiers to make Banh Chung at No.600 Radaz Station in Nam Du Archipelago.
Each year a ship carries businesses and many people to present Lunar New Year gifts from the mainland to those based at the island’s Radaz stations.
This activity seeks to convey the heartfelt warmth of the mainland to soldiers and residents on the islands as the new year approaches, supporting their efforts in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty over its sea and islands.
Soldiers and locals are busy preparing the square sticky rice cakes, a traditional dish enjoyed by people during the holiday season.
Tet is the most important festival of the year for the Vietnamese, and activities such as wrapping Banh Chung serve to boost the morale of soldiers as they carry out their duties on the islands.
Banh Chung (square glutinous rice cake) is an indispensable item that features on the altar every Tet.
