VOV.VN - The Dong Ky firecracker procession festival was held in Tu Son city in the northern province of Bac Ninh on February 1, the fourth day of the first lunar month, attracting thousands of villagers and tourists.
The festival taking place from the fourth to the sixth days of the first lunar month marks a new spring each year. Participants believe that joining in the festival will bring them good luck.
The event is associated with the myth of Saint Thien Cuong who fought against invaders and protected the village.
It is organised annually in honour of Saint Thien Cuong’s glorious victory as he originally came from Dong Ky village.
The two crackers used in the procession are made of wood and painted with gold.
They are six metres in length with a diametre of 0.6 metres each.
In the procession, each cracker is alternately carried by around 100 men aged 35 to 50 from the traditional cultural house to the ground of the communal house.
Thousands of people participate in the procession, which lasts for roughly two hours.
It takes local villagers a total of two months to prepare for the procession.
The festival was recognized as part of the national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in 2016.
