Impressive To He collection attracts customers for Tet celebrations

VOV.VN - Vietnamese people are familiar with To He, toy figurines, which have long been a traditional toy for children, with this year seeing artisan Dang Van Hau create a unique collection to impress customers during the Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet.
To He, toy figurines, are Vietnamese folk toys which are small, colourful figurines made from glutinous rice powder. Artisan Dang Van Hau, 34, residing in Phu Xuyen district of Hanoi says the tiger-shaped figurine is the hardest among 12 zodiac animals which takes him the longest to complete.
Figurines featuring “Ong Cong, Ong Tao”, “Land Genie and Kitchen Gods” in English, have recently been debuted this Tet festival.
To He are typically made from glutinous rice powder, artisans use different kinds of vegetables and ash to colour the rice powder with seven basic colours, including green, sea blue, red, purple, yellow, white, and black.
Making such figurines requires meticulousness and great skill.
Traditional folk stories are recreated through the To He collection.
To He are made for children to provide them with some fun. Children can even eat them after playing with the figures.
Artisan Dang Van Hau creates the To He collection to mark the Year of Tiger.
